Eligibility Criteria:-
- English is one of the required languages.
- All nations in the world are eligible.
- Both domestic and foreign students are eligible to apply for four-year fellowships. Although they may be available to ongoing PhD students, the fellowships are often awarded to students starting their first year of study.
- For a maximum of four years, 4YF financing may be available; however, under certain conditions, the term of funding may be shorter (see the 4YF Guidelines for specifics).
- Funding is always contingent upon adequate academic advancement.
- Vanier Scholarships, Doctoral Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGSD), CIHR Doctoral Research Awards, NSERC Doctoral Postgraduate Scholarships (PGSD), and SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships are among the Tri-Agency awards that automatically make students 4YF designates. After their external scholarship funding expires, doctoral students who earn Tri-Agency scholarships may be eligible for 4YF tuition coverage. They will also receive 4YF stipend and tuition support until the completion of their fourth year of study.
Once their external scholarship funding expires, - other significant external scholarship recipients who are chosen as 4YF designates will receive a 4YF stipend and tuition support until the completion of their fourth year of PhD study. They may also be eligible for 4YF tuition coverage.
How to Apply:-
- Use the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) official graduate admissions webpage to apply for admission to a qualified PhD, DMA, or MDPhD program.
- Make sure all necessary documents, including references and transcripts, are included in your application and that it is submitted by the admissions date for your program.
- Applications for the UBC Four Years Doctoral Fellowship 2026 do not need to be submitted separately. You are immediately eligible for the fellowship if you receive an admissions offer.
- Based on academic performance, each UBC graduate program evaluates incoming and ongoing PhD candidates and choose the best applicant.
- The chosen individuals are then internally nominated by graduate programs through the submission of a University Award Recommendation Form to Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
- Your department will tell you personally about the fellowship offer and give you instructions on how to accept it if you are chosen.
- In order to activate funding, you must formally accept the fellowship through UBC’s Student Service Center, which also provides final award details.
