Boston University’s Global China Initiative (GCI) is the home of the esteemed, fully funded Global China Fellows Program 2026. Outstanding candidates from all over the world who are keen to learn more about China’s changing impact in world affairs are encouraged to apply to this international program. The fellowship, which is intended for aspiring academics and professionals, offers the chance to work with Boston University’s esteemed teachers and researchers on cutting-edge policy-focused research.

The goal of the Global China Fellows Program 2026 is to develop the next generation of world leaders who will influence how people perceive China’s foreign policy initiatives and economic activities. Fellows will acquire important insights into China’s place in the changing dynamics of global politics and economy through cooperative research, scholarly mentoring, and hands-on experience. In addition to advancing scholarly knowledge, this fellowship creates significant international ties that will have a long-term influence on global research and policy.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Anyone can apply, regardless of nationality. Geographical limitations do not exist.
  • must be able to physically visit the United States.
  • capable of obtaining a J-1 visa.
  • The qualifying tests and dissertation proposal defense must be finished by pre-doctoral candidates.
  • By August 2026, post-doctoral candidates must have successfully defended their dissertation.
  • must exhibit a keen interest in and proficiency with China’s international economic activity and interactions with international organizations.

  • Current Curriculum Vitae
  • A one to two page cover letter that highlights the candidate’s experience, research interests, and academic background
  • A working paper proposal of one to two pages that describes the research question or questions, methodology, research plan, and importance
  • Two references’ contact details.

Streams of Work:-

  • In order to conduct research on China’s economic engagement and activities abroad that is pertinent to policy, participants will
  • collaborate with researchers from the GDP Center, BU academics, and institutions based in the Global South.
  • Fellows work on one of the four GCI workstreams in pairs with a GDP Center Senior Academic Researcher or BU faculty member:
  • Data Analysis for Accountability and Transparency (D.A.T.A.)
  • The Belt and Road Initiative (FAIR-BRI), Energy and Climate, Agriculture, Forestry, and Indigenous Rights China and the International Financial Architecture (CHIFA).
  • In order to inform policy decisions, the Global China Fellows Program has a track record of bridging the gap between academia and policymaking.
