European Union Traineeships Programme 2026

A Paid Internship Opportunity for Graduates in Europe & Beyond

Are you a recent graduate dreaming of working in Europe, meeting people from all over the world, and getting real experience in international policy? The EU Traineeships Programme 2026 might be your perfect next step.

Every year, thousands of young people apply to be part of this exciting journey. The European Commission, European Parliament, and Council of the EU offer 5-month paid internships to fresh graduates from Europe and beyond.

It’s not just a regular internship—this is your chance to work at the heart of the European Union, develop your skills, and explore what it’s really like inside the institutions that shape Europe’s future.

Let’s walk you through everything you need to know.

What Is the EU Traineeship Programme?

The EU Traineeships (also known as Blue Book,Schuman, or Council traineeships) offer twice-a-year intakes: in March and October. Each internship lasts five months and takes place in places like Brussels, Luxembourg, or Strasbourg.

There are three main types of traineeships:

1. European Commission (Blue Book)
2. European Parliament (Schuman Traineeships)
3.Council of the European Union Traineeships

Each of them has slightly different application processes and requirements—but they all offer a monthly grant, travel reimbursement, and a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Who Can Apply?

Let’s break it down simply:

You must have a university degree (Bachelor’s level or higher).
You don’t need prior work experience, but you can’t have worked for an EU institution for more than 6 weeks before.
Languages matter!

If you’re an EU citizen: You need to know at least two official EU languages well.
If you’re from outside the EU: One strong EU language (usually English or French) is enough.

This means the programme is open to both EU and non-EU graduates, making it a truly global opportunity.
Is It Paid?

Yesand generously!

Here’s what you can expect:
European Commission (Blue Book): Around €1,400/month, plus travel allowance and health insurance.
European Parliament (Schuman): Similar benefits, with about €1,300–1,400/month.
Council of the EU: About €1,176/month, plus meal vouchers and other perks.

While you’ll need to cover your living expenses (housing, food, transport), this stipend is designed to help you live comfortably during your stay in cities like Brussels or Luxembourg.
